The Baltimore Sun as well as a variety of Twitter feeds have picked up the press release AANR sent out yesterday about body scanners at airports and nude recreation. Stay tuned.

January 8th, 2010TV Shows Promote Skinny-Dipping
November 6th, 2009This week, two television shows promoted the joys of skinny-dipping. Nudists, of course, have long known the pleasure of swimming in the buff while feeling the coolness of the water and warmth of the sun against bare skin. Hopefully, after watching these shows, there will be some new converts to skinny-dipping who will wonder what took them so long to try it for themselves.
Channel Canada will air a six-part series “Skinny Dip,” beginning November 18 on Travel & Escape. Following the success of last year’s hour-long special, host Eve Kelly travels the world in search of the best locations to skinny-dip, challenging unsuspecting strangers along the way to try swimming au naturel. Episodes include travels to the Canadian Yukon, Costa Rica, Australia, the Bahamas, British Columbia, and New Zealand.

Wednesday’s “Oprah Winfrey Show” was themed “Step Out of Your Box,” and challenged four women to try things they had never tried before. A mother of four, a woman who just lost her husband and job, a neonatologist, and a single mother of two boys were urged to break from their daily routines. Ali Wentworth guided the women through a roller derby, skydiving–and skinny-dipping.
After the women disrobed and ran into the ocean, one contestant remarked, “Who cares what we look like? We’re just going to literally get out of our skin and be a bunch of gals naked in the ocean.”

Skinny-Dip Figures Released
August 18th, 2009The AANR count for The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip was announced at last weeks’s AANR Convention. The final results? 13, 648 people simultaneously skinny-dipped across North America on July 11 as the grand finale to Nude Recreation Week. Thanks to all who participated and to those who were there in spirit. We’re hoping for an even bigger number next year, so stay tuned.

World Record Skinny-Dip Update
July 15th, 2009The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip was a great success, with almost 140 locations hosting the event to see how many people could simultaneously skinny-dip across North America and earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. As of today, the count stands at 12,143, and the counts are still coming in.
A Positive Experience
July 14th, 2009It’s always interesting to read about first time visits to a nudist resort. While attending The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip on Saturday was not your typical visit, first-timers can be uncertain about the experience. What they usually find is that the visit exceeds their expectations and they have a great time. One comment that is heard over and over is that the people at nudist resorts are so friendly.
That was the case for Metromix Orlando writer Miriam Lorenzi, who made the trip out to Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa to cover the Skinny-Dip event. Lorenzi says she didn’t know what to expect but what she found was cooperation and “friendly smiles.” She closes her article with “Incidentally, this assignment has been filed under POSITIVE EXPERIENCE.”

Take The Plunge–Nude Recreation Week 2009
July 6th, 2009Today is the first day of Nude Recreation Week, an annual week-long event for nudists and naturists across North America and the Caribbean. The event has evolved from National Nude Beach Day in 1975 to National Nude Weekend to its present-day incarnation as Nude Recreation Week.
Nude Recreation Week is a celebration for nudists but it is also a time to share the joys of nude recreation with those who have never tried it before. Have you thought about skinny-dipping or spending time at a nudist club or resort or at a designated nude location? There is sure to be one nearby.
Many AANR clubs host special activities during the week, and many waive grounds fees for first-timers so visitors can find out for themselves about the stress-free enjoyment of the nudist lifestyle.
This year, nudists across North America are especially excited about Nude Recreation Week, which will culminate with The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip. The Guinness World RecordsTM organization has created a new category for the largest number of people simultaneously skinny-dipping, and AANR is the contract association for this record-setting event.
Skinny-dipping, a wholesome tradition as old as mankind and frequently honored in art and movies, celebrates the natural joy of plunging into water without hindrance of clothing. AANR is coordinating skinny-dipping events at participating clubs and legally-sanctioned nude beaches throughout North America on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 3:00 pm Eastern Nudist Time, as an exciting finale to Nude Recreation Week.
So what are you waiting for? Take the plunge! Call 800-879-6833 or click here for more information.
An American Tradition
June 29th, 2009
With The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip less than two weeks away, media interest is heating up. So far, the American Association for Nude Recreation PR team and affiliated club spokespersons across North America have been interviewed for online news features, print media articles and radio and television interviews. Upcoming features based on recent interviews will appear in major print newspapers before the event on July 11.
With all the positive publicity building, there have been a couple of articles written by people who aren’t aware of the history behind skinny-dipping. One San Francisco blogger writes that he is not aware of any art work that depicts skinny-dipping and questions why the Skinny-Dip has no designated location in San Francisco.
Since the Skinny-Dip is being coordinated by AANR, the event will take place at participating AANR clubs (there are over 260) in North America and legally sanctioned nude locations such as Haulover Beach in Miami, Florida. And even though there are no AANR clubs located in San Francisco, there are nine California locations that are participating, so we welcome this blogger and anyone else who would like to take part to find a sponsoring AANR club near them.
Secondly, skinny-dipping is a wholesome activity that harks back to the ol’ swimming hole that is a part of early Americana popularized by Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Norman Rockwell’s painting No Swimming graced the cover of the Saturday Evening Post in 1921. And who can forget the little girl in the original Coppertone ad whose dog pulled her bathing suit below her bare bottom? Until the early twenty-first century when the ad was changed, no one gave it a second thought it was so ingrained in popular culture. Historical figures such as President John Quincy Adams regularly went skinny-dipping in the Potomac.
So on July 11, make sure you are part of what is sure to be another historical marker in skinny-dipping lore, The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip, a Guinness World Records™ event. The American Association for Nude Recreation serves thousands of members who prefer their outdoor activities be clothes-free. It is simply more comfortable and fun that way no matter what the weather forecast might be.

Get Naked and Go Green
June 25th, 2009Yesterday’s New York Times Green Inc. blog posed the question,”How Green Is a Nudist Vacation?” now that summer has arrived. The article was accompanied by a photo of a naked surfer at San Onofre State Beach in California. Mainstream media is recognizing what nudists already know–that clothes-free living helps the environment and the soul.
The American Association for Nude Recreation has long touted the benefits of the au naturel lifestyle. It reduces energy consumption and the use of natural resources while allowing people to appreciate nature in our most natural state. As the NYT piece stated, living naked means less laundry, resulting in less pollution and less energy usage, and clothes-free living also creates less of a need for consumerism.
The Green Inc. blog post discussed nudist destinations such as the Aquitane region in France and nude hiking in the Swiss Alps, but a greener way to enjoy nude travel is to take a vacation close to home. With over 260 AANR clubs and resorts throughout North America and the Caribbean, there is sure to be an AANR club nearby where one can enjoy nude recreation without traveling far from home, reducing fuel costs and consumption.
An added benefit to nude recreation is feeling closer to nature. There is nothing like feeling the sun or a cool breeze against one’s naked body or skinny-dipping unencumbered by a tight-fitting bathing suit. Many prominent figures from Benjamin Franklin to Henry David Thoreau to Walt Whitman have written about the joys and health benefits of being one with nature in their natural state.
Next month, July 6-11, is Nude Recreation Week, an annual event where many AANR clubs host open houses to introduce newcomers to nude recreation. Many nonlanded or travel clubs coordinate special events during that time. One fun way to get an introduction to nude recreation is to attend The AANR World Record Skinny-Dip on July 11, a Guinness World Records event, as thousands of nudists across North America in various locations simultaneously experience the joys of skinny-dipping while setting a world record.
Nude recreation has a positive effect on the environment while also providing a stress-free, natural way to vacation. As Walt Whitman said,”Sweet, sane, still Nakedness in Nature! Perhaps indeed he or she to whom the free exhilarating ecstasy of nakedness in Nature has never been eligible (and how many thousands there are!) has not really known what purity is–nor what faith or art or health really is.”
