AANR’s Nakation Box Makes CNBC Holiday Gift List

December 5th, 2009

For the second time this holiday season, AANR’s Nakation in a Box has appeared on a list of gift suggestions for the person who has everything. See  Splash Magazine’s Holiday Travel & Leisure Gifts for 2009 here.

CNBC–the very popular cable news channel–is featuring the Association’s Nakation box on its list of “unusual” gifts along with the question, “[is this gift] stupid or cool?”

Of the voting responses collected to date, a majority aren’t completely sold on the idea.  However, the 26% who say it’s cool are right in line with other poll results that show more than 1 in 4 of those in North America have given skinny-dipping a try, and that about 1 in 5 would find visiting a nude beach or resort while on vacation a very desirable experience.

You can read the CNBC article–and perhaps vote to help boost rankings a little–by clicking here.

Not sure what to give that special someone for the holidays this year? Splash Magazines Worldwide has a few suggestions in its just-released gift guide Holiday Travel & Leisure Gifts for 2009–including AANR’s popular Nakation in a Box.

The description reads: “Thinking about giving nude recreation a try, but not sure where to begin? The American Association for Nude Recreation’s (http://www.aanr.com) new Nakation in a Box is a great way to start.” The guide then directs readers to the Nakation page and lists the contents of the box.

This is yet another example of the mainstreaming of nude recreation. Splash Magazine’s gift guide includes everything from spa retreats, luxury hotel and vacation packages, high end sports equipment and miscellaneous gifts for all budgets.

MSNBC.com Gives the Skinny on Naked Vacations

November 10th, 2009
YouTube Preview Image

In September, MSNBC travel columnist Christopher Elliott interviewed AANR Executive Director Erich Schuttauf about the state of clothing-optional travel for an article titled “Nude recreation is fun.” This week, a new, more in-depth article about nude recreation titled “5 reasons to bare it all on your next vacation” was posted at MSNBC.com with a variety of interactive features.

The MSNBC website features a YouTube video, “The skinny on clothing-optional vacations,” a link to the original “Nude recreation is fun” post plus links to other articles of interest about nude recreation. Also included is a poll, “Would you ever strip down for a naked vacation?” So far, out of 1,610 respondents, 64% voted that they “absolutely” are intrigued by the idea of a clothing-optional vacation.

TV Shows Promote Skinny-Dipping

November 6th, 2009

This week, two television shows promoted the joys of skinny-dipping. Nudists, of course, have long known the pleasure of swimming in the buff while feeling the coolness of the water and warmth of the sun against bare skin. Hopefully, after watching these shows, there will be some new converts to skinny-dipping who will wonder what took them so long to try it for themselves.

Channel Canada will air a six-part series “Skinny Dip,” beginning November 18 on Travel & Escape. Following the success of last year’s hour-long special, host Eve Kelly travels the world in search of the best locations to skinny-dip, challenging unsuspecting strangers along the way to try swimming au naturel. Episodes include travels to the Canadian Yukon, Costa Rica, Australia, the Bahamas, British Columbia, and New Zealand.

Wednesday’s “Oprah Winfrey Show” was themed “Step Out of Your Box,” and challenged four women to try things they had never tried before. A mother of four, a woman who just lost her husband and job, a neonatologist, and a single mother of two boys were urged to break from their daily routines. Ali Wentworth guided the women through a roller derby, skydiving–and skinny-dipping.

After the women disrobed and ran into the ocean, one contestant remarked, “Who cares what we look like? We’re just going to literally get out of our skin and be a bunch of gals naked in the ocean.”

Wild Horses Shouldn’t Keep You Away!

September 18th, 2009

ahorses

For over four years AANR has been working to re-establish a nude beach section on the Maryland end of Assateague National Seashore.  On behalf of our members who enjoy skinny-dipping in a safe and positive environment, AANR has lobbied legislators and Federal and State officials, funded a test case, and created an outreach program that includes members, clubs, and interested individuals through social networking sites like Facebook.

We now have an opportunity to share with officials of the National Park Service the message that nudists will continue to be positive stewards of the environment and good partners if they will help us create a designated section for nude bathing at Assateague.

The National Park Service Assateague National Seashore officials are in the process of developing a general management plan for the barrier island for the next 20 years and are soliciting public input in the process.

Public meetings are scheduled for September 21st, 22nd and 23rd at three locations in Maryland near Assateague Island. All meetings are scheduled from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

If you are interested in participating in one or more of these meetings, either as part of the audience or to convey positive messages about nude recreation as an official use at Assateague (Maryland), please contact the AANR East Government Affairs Chair, Audrey Weber, at 703-244-6615 or governmentaffairschair@aanr-east.com
